Do you owe tax on FanDuel winnings?
Every dollar you win is taxable income, whether or not anyone sent you a form. Losses come off only if you itemize, and only up to your winnings. From tax year 2026 you may deduct just 90 percent of your losses, so breaking even now produces taxable income.
Take the standard deduction, which most filers do, and the losses do nothing at all. Your gross winnings are taxed in full.
A sportsbook reports individual qualifying wins on Form W-2G. A W-2G does not show your yearly profit or loss, so it is never a measure of what you owe.
What FanDuel issues
1- Form W-2G
- Form 1099
Where to find it
1The Tax Center, inside the FanDuel Sportsbook app. Also reachable from the Account overview page. Sportsbook, Casino, Daily Fantasy, Racing and Faceoff are documented separately, so check each product you played.
When it appears
1By January 31 of the year following the tax year.
How it reaches you
1FanDuel delivers it in your account and by post.
The name on the form may not be the one you know
1Betfair Interactive US LLC, trading as FanDuel Sportsbook, in most states. For sportsbook wagers placed in Indiana the form comes from Blue Chip Casino, LLC instead.
The thresholds, as FanDuel states them
1What FanDuel says triggers a form
FanDuel’s own wording, not the rule. Operators restate the law, and their wording is not always correct.
- Sportsbook W-2G when winnings reduced by the wager are $600 or more, which FanDuel notes has increased to $2,000 for 2026, and the payout is at least 300 times the wager
- Withholding of 24 percent when winnings reduced by the wager exceed $5,000 and the payout is at least 300 times the wager
For a sportsbook wager, the reporting threshold is set by 26 U.S.C. 6041(a), which section 70433(a) of Public Law 119-21 raised from $600 to $2,000 for payments made after 31 December 2025. A sportsbook W-2G also needs winnings of at least 300 times the wager. That change also reaches slot machines, bingo and keno. 26 CFR 1.6041-10 still prints $1,200 for slots and bingo and $1,500 for keno, but the Treasury says the statutory floor applies regardless (REG-113229-25), so $2,000 is the figure for all three for payments made in 2026. Some casinos may still issue a form at the lower figures. That does not change what you owe. Every dollar of gambling winnings is taxable whether or not a form arrives, so do not read a missing form as a missing tax bill. How the W-2G threshold works.
How many forms to expect
1One form per qualifying transaction, with no aggregation. FanDuel issues a W-2G "for each sports betting transaction" that qualifies, so the count depends on how many individual wagers hit the criteria. That is the opposite of DraftKings, which combines a day of wins on one game type into a single form. Documents are also split per product, because Sportsbook, Casino, Daily Fantasy, Racing and Faceoff are handled separately.
The win/loss statement, which is not your tax form
1FanDuel says outright that the Player Activity Statement is not a tax form, and that they do not provide it to the IRS or to any state or local authority. It summarises deposits, withdrawals, winnings and bets, which is exactly what a session log needs.
This is the document a session log is built from, and the one most often mistaken for a tax form. Per wager or per session, and why it changes your bill.
Worth knowing
- FanDuel does not report annual profit or loss to the IRS for Sportsbook, Casino or Racing. Only individual qualifying transactions are reported, on a W-2G.
- In nine states your winnings may be intercepted under a state debt set-off programme: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Ohio.
