Do you owe tax on Caesars Sportsbook winnings?
Every dollar you win is taxable income, whether or not anyone sent you a form. Losses come off only if you itemize, and only up to your winnings. From tax year 2026 you may deduct just 90 percent of your losses, so breaking even now produces taxable income.
Take the standard deduction, which most filers do, and the losses do nothing at all. Your gross winnings are taxed in full.
A sportsbook reports individual qualifying wins on Form W-2G. A W-2G does not show your yearly profit or loss, so it is never a measure of what you owe.
- A Year-End Summary, requested in the app
- A Tax Reported Prizes history list
- Form W-2G and Form 1099 for land-based play, through Caesars Rewards
- Form W-2G for racing, through a NYRA Bets account
In the app, My Account, then Year-End Summary, then Request Year-End Summary. Wins that needed a claim process appear under My Account, History, Tax Reported Prizes. A racing W-2G sits in the NYRA Bets account, under My Account, then Transactions/W-2G.
A requested Year-End Summary takes up to 72 hours. Land-based win/loss statements appear in the first week of February, and land-based 1099s are sent by the end of January.
How it reaches you
1Caesars Sportsbook delivers it in your account and by request to support for some forms.
What Caesars Sportsbook says triggers a form
Caesars Sportsbook’s own wording, not the rule. Operators restate the law, and their wording is not always correct.
- Online, a single wager paying 300 times the amount wagered and at least $600 requires a special claim process
- Racing, reportable at 300 to 1 and above $600, with automatic 24 percent withholding above $5,000
Where these figures and the rule in force differ
- $600: Superseded for 2026 payments, now $2,000
Caesars’ online and racing pages still use the pre-2026 figure. The racing page also opens with a 2017 rule change as if it were new, and its worked example gives three different withholding amounts for the same win.
For a sportsbook wager, the reporting threshold is set by 26 U.S.C. 6041(a), which section 70433(a) of Public Law 119-21 raised from $600 to $2,000 for payments made after 31 December 2025. A sportsbook W-2G also needs winnings of at least 300 times the wager. That change also reaches slot machines, bingo and keno. 26 CFR 1.6041-10 still prints $1,200 for slots and bingo and $1,500 for keno, but the Treasury says the statutory floor applies regardless (REG-113229-25), so $2,000 is the figure for all three for payments made in 2026. Some casinos may still issue a form at the lower figures. That does not change what you owe. Every dollar of gambling winnings is taxable whether or not a form arrives, so do not read a missing form as a missing tax bill. How the W-2G threshold works.
How many forms to expect
1Split four ways, across four support sites: the online app, Caesars Rewards for land-based play, Caesars Racebook for racing, and William Hill for a Nevada retail account. The online Year-End Summary is also generated per state, so a bettor who moved mid-year must request one for each.
The win/loss statement, which is not your tax form
1Caesars files the Year-End Summary under a heading titled Win/Loss Statements and opens it "Tax documentation is now available directly within the app". It carries no warning that a summary is not a tax form.
This is the document a session log is built from, and the one most often mistaken for a tax form. Per wager or per session, and why it changes your bill.
Worth knowing
- The racing product tells you to log into a NYRA Bets account, not a Caesars one.
- A tax-reported win is held out of your balance until you complete a claim process that asks for the first five digits of your Social Security number.
- A land-based W-2G is not a download. You leave a voicemail on a Caesars Rewards line and wait for a call back.
- In Nevada the reporting party is William Hill, not Caesars.
What we could not confirm
We could not confirm the company name that appears on the form from a page Caesars Sportsbook publishes that we could read. We have left that out rather than guess.
